My cousin Carolyn is dear to me. She is two years older than me. I always looked up to her in so many little ways and big ways. I always thought her dark hair and dark eyes were wonderful. I thought she was chocolate colored! And my blond hair was vanilla and my blue eyes were water (not quite so appealing to a child!). She was taller than me. Whatever she liked, I tried to like too. I remember Lime Jello being her favorite, so I said it was mine too (but not really!). I remember her saying things as we played, and then saying "NO copies!" Which meant I needed to get original and figure out my own creativity (ha). We spend holidays together and family gatherings together. We made intricate Christmas sugar cookies together. We played hours and hours in her yard and mine. We climbed trees, we sat on her trampoline all summer. Their family was right next door. It was probably 20 steps from her house to mine, but I remember going home in the dark and my heart pounding as I ran from her doorstep to mine. Their family moved for a few years to Idaho Falls, and rented out their house to a nice family (the Schneiders) with two little redhead girls that I played with and taught "school" to. But I missed Carolyn and wrote her all the time. Her letters were fun. Then they moved back, and we moved to Ohio! I then went away to BYU and we didn't see each other very often. When I visited home, I went over and saw her and her family. She was so good to Marianne's daughter Sarah. And she had her son Tyler and is such a great mother. I have admired how she taught him the important things. Carolyn isn't one to put herself in the limelight. She does good behind the scenes. I love her and I still send letters to her and she to me. I love to visit her and Sarah (they live together now). She took care of her dad until his death. She is a giver. And she is a thankful person. I am grateful we are in contact still!
