A couple of weeks ago, I was posting on the YSA Facebook pages. I don't usually look at Facebook, only to post announcements. But I was just looking at each ward's page and I came to one post that said, "Does anyone have a violin I can borrow to play for my Grandpa?" It instantly made me think of the violin I had kept when Diana played in Junior High School. It isn't the best violin, but I have used it to loan to students over the years, or to play duets. I don't know this young lady, but I immediately private messaged her that I have a violin she could use. She made arrangements to come over that night and pick it up. She was so excited! She said her grandpa was in Texas and not feeling well, and she had played the violin for years and he loved to hear her, so she wanted to cheer him up. What a sweet granddaughter!
Well, a couple of weeks passed by and I wanted to hear how her little "concert" went. I messaged her again and asked how her grandpa liked her violin pieces over Zoom. She said, "He loved it. I played for him every day until he died." WHAT? I had no idea he was on his deathbed. What a sweet granddaughter to think of him as he was so far away and she couldn't be with him. That gesture will stay with her forever. What a gift! I am so glad that I responded quickly to a stranger. Usually, I would think about it and then rationalize that someone else would help her. I think I really felt the urgency from the Lord to just say yes. I am grateful to have been a part of this sweet exchange between a loving granddaughter and her dying grandfather.
