Dave and I get to do lots of activities together. I really enjoy being with him. The Stake Luau, put on by our 3 Tongan wards was such a fun and uplifting event. I believe I have been changed by our association with these wards and the Ikas. I haven't served a mission or been exposed to many cultures outside of the United States. I love the love we feel, and the respect for the Lord and his servants. I love the strong ties and their own love for their heritage and the traditions and dancing. I love their care for one another and knowing so many, and claiming so many as "cousins". I will miss this association when we are released, but hope to continue seeing and being around many of these wonderful people in other ways. What a blessing to know the whole Polynesian cultures!
One other thing we did together was attend a class at Women's Conference. It was a psychologist and wife and they did a great job. One big thing I liked was that when you experience an event, you process it according to your beliefs, and then experience emotions that come. It almost feels like the event caused the emotions, but actually our beliefs lead to those emotions. That was enlightening for me. And it also made me want to change false beliefs that are causing emotions in me! Or waiting to judge before we know the truth about a situation. That happens on the daily with media and news. You see something, and think it is true (belief) but you do not know if that really is true. So then you are angry, sad, happy, and it isn't sure that it is based on TRUTH!
I also went to two classes with Valerie Paxman. One was Bonnie Cordon, and I loved her talk. She talked about our physical bodies. She mentioned that we feel joy because our body and spirit are together. It reminded me that my dad would say he wasn't anxious to die and leave his body as he knew he would miss it. I am grateful for the ability to play Pickleball as my back is so good. And I think the more things I do, the better my back does. Sister Cordon also spoke that our hands are the exact opposite of each other but work together--the body and spirit are the same. And that Christ needed a body with his spirit to fulfill his role in the Atonement. We need to experience life for ourselves, no advice can convey what it is like, as doing life is much different than hearing about it. Satan will NEVER have a body, so he seeks to have us abuse or neglect ours so he can influence us more or see us miserable like he is. Jesus used TOUCH to heal in many miracles. In 3 Nephi 11 he described the physical touch he used. And she mentions meaningful connection to others is the greatest impact. Touch and time together cannot be substituted, especially as we raise children.
