Dave surprised me with the idea of going to Bryce Canyon for 2 days and one night. We have been quarantining and staying away from people we usually would socialize with, we needed a change of pace and scenery! It was wonderful. We drove first to Holden to see the home of our friends, the Hillestads, that they are building for their retirement. It was very nice. Then we drove down through Panguitch and stopped at Red Canyon for a few pictures. Then on to Bryce Canyon City and we entered the National Park and went to the Sunrise view point. We brought a wheelchair which dad normally wouldn’t use, but helped him to go farther. He walked for a bit and then sat in the chair and enjoyed the walk to the rim to see the beautiful formations of Bryce Canyon. Then we went to the gift shop there. We then checked into the Best Western Plus Bryce Canyon Grand Hotel. Dave had somehow secured the last room available a couple of days before! We put all our luggage in the room and then drove to Tropic where we had a great meal at IDK BBQ! The beef was outstanding, and we could see lots of cattle along the way so it was probably nice grass fed beef. Then we went quickly back to the National Park where we drove to the Sunset view point and took lots of pictures there! We drove back to the Ruby's Inn Shops to check that out. Dad sat in the lobby and rested while we shopped. And then we went across the street to our hotel for a well deserved rest. In the morning, we enjoyed a lovely buffet breakfast (served to us) of eggs, bacon, waffles, hash browns, yogurt, and more; and then we drove back to the National Park to Inspiration Point. Dad stayed in the car and rested while Dave and I hiked up quite a ways to see some spectacular views. I think that was my favorite part! We enjoyed that for a while and then drove out of Bryce and headed back to Red Canyon where Dave and I took another short hike on an Interpretive trail. We drove from there, and stopped in JOSEPH, Utah to take dad's picture. And then we drove to Richfield and found the Cemetery. We located the graves of my mother’s parents, George and Pearl Hunter, and Pearl's parents, and her sister Maybelle. That was wonderful. I hadn't seen those. Then we drove to an address I had acquired from the Recorders office of property owned by George. When we got there, my dad said, "This isn't their home!" So he told us to drive a certain way and we found the church the Hunter family attended. From there dad remembered Center Street, and we ended up finding the home! A man named Ashley just bought it two years previously, and he took us on an outdoor tour, showing us Grandpa's garden area. We went into the home and dad didn't recognize much as it has been remodeled. But the mantle of the fireplace reminded him that Frances’ picture was on that mantle when he first visited this home as he left his mission with his mother. He had told Frances they would visit her home and send her good wishes. When my dad was invited into the home by Frances’ mother, he saw that picture and realized it was the same one he had seen in a dream, and knew it was who he was supposed to marry. He was touched at seeing that mantle again. It was a sweet memory. We enjoyed that stop. Dave wanted to see the home of an old mission companion in Monroe, so we drove there, and knocked on the door unsuccessfully. He asked the neighbor if they lived there, and they do. But we didn't have a phone number so he will have to investigate. We drove back to Richfield and had a wonderful dinner at Sagebrush Grill. SERIOUSLY good food. We took off again and drove through Sterling, Utah with another picture! And then we stopped in Manti and took pictures of the temple, which my dad's father had helped to design an annex to. The fall colors were beautiful. And we stopped again in Ephraim to see Snow College and enjoy that campus. We carried on from there to Provo where we arrived at 7:30pm. What a quick but unhurried and fun trip we enjoyed. I think the three of us are good traveling companions.
