Vern Mumford Tueller 1926-2021

My dear father-in-law passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.  He was in Stonehenge Rehab after a stay at the hospital for internal bleeding.  He was trying so hard to get back HOME.  He worked at the Physical Therapy they gave him.  He was trying to be as independent as he could.  He was enjoying the orange sherbet cups and the chocolate milk and tapioca pudding that they would serve him at any time.  He was giving advise to the staff that was profound.  He asked some to sing with him, hymns that would lift both.  He was enjoying his children visiting and staying to keep him company.  He would pass the time with his word games on his iPad.  We all thought it would be a tough transition home.  Carolyn and Kirk were preparing the home so he could be there.  They would stay with him until he could be independent again.  We were all worried how this would play out.  But we knew that was what he wanted and we were hopeful he could give it a try.  Home is where he wanted to be after his stay in rehab.

Tuesday morning, he was trying to get up to use the restroom and somehow fell from his bed, catching his wrist in the railings.  The nurse heard him and helped him down and laid him on the ground, in the lap of a CNA.  They were there for him.  He was alert, and then not, and then stopped breathing.  It was quick.  I like to think Mom came to get him and when he knew this he ran to her quickly.  We all gathered in his room for a few hours and reminisced and took in the shock of him gone.  I know he was 95, but he had beat so many illnesses, injuries, and situations that could have taken him earlier that I think I didn't believe he could really go.

HE IS HOME.  Just where he wanted to be.  With those on the other side welcoming him.
